The Town of Burlington has recently received a grant to expand the flagship Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station at Town Hall with two additional parking spaces. The Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program (MassEVIP) Public Access Charging (PAC) Program, funded through the Climate Protection and Mitigation and Expendable Trust (CMT), will be funding 93% of the proposed work.
This grant targets charging stations that are accessible to the public 24/7. The current cost to charge at this location is $0.20 per kilowatt hour (kWh), and parking is free for the first three hours ($2 per hour after that).
When the original EV station was installed in 2020, we made sure to expand the trench and run conduit for a potential seven total spaces at Town Hall. Due to this prep work, minimal excavation will occur. Both Town Hall charging stations are ChargePoint dual port level 2 chargers installed by Voltrek, LLC.
The total cost of this project is $39,860. MassEVIP has awarded the Town $37,240, resulting in only $2,620 to be funded by the Town, which will cover the cost of five years of maintenance and repairs to the EV station.
