MassDOT to Hold Forum for Revamping Major Intersection Tonight

If you listened to the Buzz interview with incumbent Select Board candidate, Joe Morandi, you might have heard him mention wanting to collaborate with the City of Woburn to improve the intersection on the border between the two municipalities.

This evening, MassDOT will be holding a public forum to discuss their proposal for improving the intersection of Cambridge Street (in Burlington)/Cambridge Road (in Woburn) with Bedford Street to the east and South Bedford Street to the west. (Don’t ask us–the Buzz wasn’t there when they named all these roads!)

The state is looking to “address traffic congestion, improve safety, and improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility through the intersection,” an initiaive many feel is a long time coming: The intersection is considered a “high crash” location relative to the region.

While there would be impacts to motorists and pedestrians/cyclists while the work is underway, improvements could include a new traffic signal, wider roadways with adequate turning lanes, bike lanes, and much more.
