On April 24 and 25, candidates for Burlington’s local election, which occurred on April 6, 2024, were notified that uncounted ballots were found from two precincts and that a new local election ballot count would need to be performed, just on those uncounted ballots.
Those ballots (49 in Precinct 1 and 67 in Precinct 5) were counted officially on April 30, beginning at 2:00 PM, and the results largely mirrored the results published the night of the election. No seats were changed as a result of these uncounted ballots, and in the School Committee race, which was only separated by 90 votes according to the preliminary results the night of the election, the revised results Martha Simon and Meghan Nawoichik give the two an 89-vote gap.
According to Town Clerk, Amy Warfield, whose office is in charge of running local, state, and national elections, the uncounted ballots were found in a bin with empty envelopes. After they were found, Warfield had to request a court order to open the sealed ballot boxes, which took longer than expected.
