Red Devils Track Teams Put Up Strong Performance at League Championship
Many medals came home with the Red Devils from the League Championship; today, the basketball teams defend their winning records.
The track & field teams took place in the Middlesex League Championship Meet yesterday at the Track at New Balance.
Girls brought home medals in six categories: Leila Gilligan scored 7th in both the 55m hurdles and the 600 m sprint, Ashleigh DeMartinis came in 6th in the 2-mile run, and Cassidy Hanlon took 5th in shot put. The two relay teams medaled as well: The 4x200 team of Cummings, Floyd, Clement and Goodwin placed 8th, and
DeMartinis, Bilodeau, Gunther, and Eldridge took 5th in the 4x400.
For the boys, the 4x400 team of Kanyike, Ivanov, Dutta, and Almeida took 2nd while the 4x200 team of Sheehan, Richer, Burke, and Brooks took 5th. Other medalists were Ryan Brooks taking second in the Long Jump, Perkins Augustin taking 6th in the shot put, William Morrison taking 3rd in the weight throw, and Krish Almeida taking 6th in the one-mile run.
On today's athletics calendar is basketball in Melrose, as all teams except for the freshman boys travel to meet the Red Hawks. The girls play first with a 4:30 JV game and a 5:15 varsity game, followed by the boys at 6:00 (JV) and 7:00 (varsity). The JV boys' team will stay in Burlington and play Melrose at BHS at 4:15.
