Big Wins Put Red Devils on the Board for the Season
The hockey teams got what they were seeking yesterday, with both boys' and girls' varsity teams besting the Lexington Minutemen at the Ice Palace. The girls secured a 5-2 win, and the boys shut out the Minutemen 5-0. Scoring was spread out on both sides, with each girls' goal scored by a different player and the boys' five goals spread among four team members.
The wrestling team also took their first win of the season, coming out over Malden Catholic with a score of 63-18. "Burlington earned 9 pins on the night and only lost one contested match," said coach Paul Shvartsman. After falling to three different teams in the quad match last weekend, the team is heading into the Lowell Holiday Tournament this weekend 1-3 with high hopes for a strong performance.
Track and basketball are on the agenda for this afternoon; the indoor track team has their first meet of the season, as they go up against Melrose at 4:00 at the Track at New Balance. The basketball teams will play Watertown in three different locations: The freshman boys will travel to Watertown for a 4:00 game, the JV girls will host the Raiders at MSMS at 4:00, and the JV boys, varsity boys, and varsity girls will play at BHS at 4:15, 5:30, and 7:00, respectively.
