Burlington Girls Kick to Victory
Over the long weekend, our 2013 Girls’ Soccer players had the opportunity to play in the Capitol Cup in Epping, New Hampshire. This event brings together elite/premier and town/travel teams from all over the region for a fun and competitive tournament.
In the team’s first game, they took a close 3-2 win against FC Stars of Northoboro. Lilah, Chase, and Kaitlyn made the team’s three goals, and Marin, Kaitlyn, and Chase did some great goalkeeping. Kudos to Marin, Molly, Kaitlyn, and Eliza for their assists.
Game 2 against Mass City was a 5-0 shutout thanks to goalkeepers Eliza and Vera, with Kaitlyn making two of the team’s goals along with Marin, Chase, and Hope.
The last matchup was another close one, sitting at a 1-1 tie until the last minute. While the girls only needed the tie to win their bracket, they played to win. In the last 60 seconds of the game, Eliza and Hope broke away. Eliza tapped it up to Hope, who sneaked it by the goalie! Along with Lilah’s score earlier in the game, Hope’s goal (with Eliza’s assist) made two, and fantastic goalkeeping by Hope, Molly, and Lilah held the opposing team, Seacoast, to one. Burlington won the game 2-1, sweeping the series and taking home the championship.
Congratulations to these girls for all their hard work last weekend and throughout the season!
Thanks to Melissa Interess and Daniela DeSousa for helping this story.
Soccer Night next Wednesday
Soccer Night, coming up on October 19, is another great way to support our soccer program. Come help us fill the stands as our Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Soccer teams take on Melrose on our newly installed (and so pretty ) field. As reported by BCAT, the varsity players will be escorted onto the field by our 3rd-5th grade BYSA players. It will be a fun community building event for all, and I hope you can attend! Concessions will be available for purchase throughout.
