Good Morning!

The National History Day competition season began in October in Burlington, and Marshall Simonds students have been hard at work for months, researching and putting together novel projects on interesting topics. This year’s competition brought more MSMS students than ever before, with over 45 students entering 22 projects on this year’s theme, Frontiers in History, at the District contest.

Students researched fashion, 19th century female activists, scientific discoveries and innovations, explorers, photography, music, transportation, and military actions. From those 22 projects, 11 moved on to States, which were held in Winchester on Saturday, April 1.

I’m excited to announce that we have nine MSMS students, representing five junior projects, moving to nationals! And (and this will be no surprise to anyone familiar with her energy and passion) our very own NHD and 6th grade social studies teacher, Barbara Sturtevant, was nominated for teacher of the year!

Congratulations to these students and projects moving on to the national competition at the University of Maryland in June:

• Group Exhibit (Gold): “Montreal Protocol: Catalyst for Climate Control” by Therese Kosinkski & Rina Arisipathi
• Group Exhibit (Silver): “Marie Curie: Glowing Discoveries and a Radiant Life” by Madhav Menon, Abhay Sharma & Cristian Jordan DeLeon

Congratulations also to Ms. Sturtevant, the special prize winners, and everyone else who contributed to this effort! I’ll have photos and more details in a stand-alone post sometime soon!

Our Robotics Team made it to Springfield for the New England District competition and have already participated in a few qualifying matches. Today they have nine matches! Live stream the action here. Good luck, DevilBotz!

Boys’ and girls’ tennis both meet today at 4:00; boys will be playing in Bedford and girls will host Bedford at Rahanis.
