Help Make the 2024 DevilBotz Season the Best Yet
The excitement in in the room was palpable a few Saturdays ago when I went to visit the high school robotics team. The challenge for the 2024 season had just been unveiled—complete with a 140-page handbook full of rules, regulations, and the penalties for not following them—and the team was eager to get started.
Founded in 2009, the DevilBotz are now a formidable group of students and mentors collaborating to do one thing: build a robot that’s up for the challenge set by FIRST Robotics. In this year’s game, called Crescendo, the team will work together to create and program a robot that can perform a number of different tasks relating to the theme of music.
The team has around eight weeks to get their robot up and running, and the students are excited to get things moving. After a dip in activity during the pandemic, the group has returned en force, complete with a Student Executive Board to help organize and focus the team to build a robot that students hope will bring them through Qualifying and Districts and all the way to the World Championship.
Interested students can join the team; adults who want to help can become a mentor and/or donate to cover the team’s travel and other expenses.
