Daily Buzz | BHS Brings Mental Health to the Forefront
The day before break, students to engage in wellness workshops
Good Morning!
Today is the Winter Solstice, otherwise known as the day where we start having hope that the light will eventually return. Also referred to as the “shortest day of the year.” If you’re celebrating today, I hope you have a peaceful time. I’m so excited to see the daylight hours stretch over the next several months, even though I know cold days and nasty weather are ahead.
This Friday, BHS will be holding a schoolwide day of wellness. Stemming from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) process, this day is designed to acknowledge that many of our young people are struggling with stress management and self-care. Students will take part in various workshops and activities led by BHS staff, and they’ll end the day with some fun community building activities like a lip sync battle.
According to BHS Principal, Mark Sullivan, the day is designed to:
- Increase awareness and decrease the stigma associated with mental health struggles and seeking help
- Increase self-care and wellness skills for students and staff
- Take a break from our usual routine to care for ourselves
- Display the importance of overall wellness and balance in our lives as both students and adults.
If you’ve got a student in the high school, ask them about the new skills and ideas they explore on Friday!
