Burlington High School Music Department Competes in Orlando

The Burlington High School Music Department has been hard at work—and play!—as they traveled to Orlando, FL, to represent Burlington in this year's WorldStrides Orlando Heritage Festival at Universal Studios.

The Orlando Heritage Festival is an national music competition where students perform in front of expert judges, receive and apply feedback, and, after the competition is over, head to the local theme parks to have some fun. According to BHS music teacher, Beth Holmgren, "In addition to performing, all student groups received coaching and instructional feedback from the expert panelists—exploring new techniques, strategies and musical insights."

Fifty-nine BHS students, representing the Concert Chorus & String Orchestra ensemble (both led by Holmgren) and Concert Band (led by fellow BHS music teacher, Tim Ketterer), competed, and their hard work reaped rewards for the groups and some individual students.

All three groups earned a Silver Award for their outstanding performances, and two students walked away with individual WorldStrides Maestro awards, as well: Esther Ma won Outstanding Accompanist; and Sienna Silva won Outstanding Choral Soloist

The next performance by the BHS Concert Band, Concert Chorus and String Orchestra is their Pops Concert on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The Burlington High School Music Department hopes to see you there!
