Hello, Burlington!

The Civic Expo Recap is officially posted on the Something to Talk About website! If you are a total nerd like me who enjoys learning where ideas come from and how they come together, or if you’re just curious to see our reflections on the process, the event, and the plans for next year, watch Town Clerk Amy Warfield and Buzz founder Nicci Kadilak discuss all things Civic Expo with host Linda McNamee. Be sure to watch to the end, so you can find out if you were a door prize winner!

We’ve got some questions for you, plus the chance to win a gift card. But first, a short story.

It’s hard to believe Nicci posted the first VOTER INFO post on Facebook two whole years ago. Three weeks after that, on February 20, 2022, Burlington Buzz was launched into the town’s collective consciousness.

Our 2023 Annual Report focused on the impact to readers of having direct access to relevant, relatable, plain-language local news:

Burlington Buzz readers are more connected to our community than ever. "I heard about it in the Buzz," is the refrain from the Food Pantry to the Council on Aging and at events all over town. Community members have cited the Buzz as their inspiration for running for office, joining affinity groups, and even applying for jobs. The Buzz is a trusted source that aims to provide value and connection to everyone in Burlington.

In 2023 we hired two part-time staff members, planned a Civic Expo, created a proof-of-concept Seasonal Guide that proved to be a useful resource for the community, and won the LION Publishers Community Engagement Award. The year 2024 promises to be even better for community connection in Burlington, and we need your feedback to be sure we are providing you with the news and resources that matter to you.

This brief survey is intended to help us refine the work we’re doing and reach new readers. Please take a moment to fill it out (It’ll take five minutes or less!) and also forward it to everyone you know in Burlington, especially if they don’t subscribe to the Buzz.

Anyone who fills out the survey by next Sunday will be in the running to receive one of 10 gift cards to a local business, including True North, Pizza Works, T&K Nails, Purity Ave Candles, and more. Thanks so much for taking a few minutes to help us out today. We really appreciate it!

Sports and Activities

It’s been a great weekend for Burlington sports, with Devils winning all 4 varsity games.

Boys won their basketball game on Friday with a score of 57-45, marking their eighth win in a row and bringing their record to 11-5. Lady Devils won, too, by a score of 52-33.

The girls’ hockey team (now 12-1-1) came out on top in Stoneham on Saturday with a score of 4-2, while boys shut out the Spartans 3-0, bringing their record to 8-6-2.

The end of the season is in sight for many of our athletes, as our track teams tear up for the ML12 Championship on Monday and the basketball and hockey teams work to finish their seasons strong and set themselves up for a strong start in the state tourney. Gymnastics is on this week’s agenda, too, as are the Wrestling Sectionals.

That’s all we’ve got for you today. Have a great sunny Sunday, and we’ll see you tomorrow—same Buzz time, same Buzz channel.

Nicci
