Daily Buzz | Shawsheen Student to Go for Second Consecutive Gold at SkillsUSA Nationals

Good Morning, Burlington!

I bring to you this morning an exciting and inspiring story from Shawsheen
Tech. Junior, Cole Kelley, has earned his second consecutive spot at SkillsUSA nationals after crushing the district and state competitions. Last year he took gold, and he intends to do the same this year.

Cole’s origin story is like one you’ve never heard: His interest in HVAC grew out of his experience with chronic migraines and his frequent trips to Boston Children’s Hospital as a young child. He intends to use his training to work on pharmaceutical refrigeration, ensuring the unique refrigeration needs of patients and those who treat them are met. Read more about Cole and his journey to and through Shawsheen and SkillsUSA, and be sure to send him supportive thoughts as he heads to the National Leadership & Skills Conference in June.

Sports and Activities

Our volleyball teams played well yesterday but didn’t quite make it. JV lost 1-2, and Varsity lost 1-3 against Arlington. Baseball teams also fell, JV by a score of 12-2 and Varsity by 5-3.

Our softball team found their W, though, with a 9-0 win against Melrose. Boys’ Tennis also won their match against Melrose with a score of 5-0. No word on the girls’ score yet.

Nothing on the sport calendar for today or Sunday. However, the boys’ volleyball team will be playing tomorrow at Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School. JV plays at 4:00 and Varsity at 5:30.
