A recap from the latest Select Board meeting.

The Select Board considered two liquor license questions last night at their meeting.

King's Dining and Entertainment, located at 52 2nd Ave, requested permission to serve large "King Size" drinks, an item already offered at ten other King's locations across five states.

The Board set some ground rules: Tables need at least four people, all over 21, and there's a limit of one King Size drink per group per night. Other drinks cannot be ordered to the table for another hour, and the restrictions are managed via the restaurant's point-of-sale system. Representatives from King's don't anticipate any issues with these rules, citing they only sell an average of one such drink per site per week, more as a novelty than anything else.

The unanimous decision puts Kings in line with other Burlington spots like Karma and Tavern in the Square, which already have the go-ahead for similar large-format drinks.

Also approved was a liquor license for Birdie Bar, a golf simulator experience that anticipates opening its doors in the Shoppes at Simonds after the start of the year. The spot will have a full bar, packaged candy, and a selection of bar food that can be ordered to your simulator via QR code so you don't have to stop playing.

"I'm excited about the entertainment you're bringing to this residential side of town," said Board member, Jim Tigges.

The board also touched on possibly updating the town's alcohol policy to better fit businesses like Birdie Bar and Kings that offer experiences and not just drinks and food.

Also at Select Board:

  • Sean Daly and Ryan Loftus were appointed to the Fire Department in the role of Firefighter/Paramedic.
  • The request for a Grant of Location for Verizon at 33 Chestnut was withdrawn; Town Administrator, Paul Sagarino said at the meeting that he suspects the proponent will rework their plan prior to resubmitting.
  • A bench will be place next to the Town Hall Annex building honoring Paul Raymond's 50 years of service to the town; the Select Board will discuss a policy for such items in their next strategic planning meeting to ensure the guidelines are clear.
  • A local builder donated a house to the Fire Department for practice.

The next Select Meeting is scheduled for November 4.
