ELECTION CORNER

Doug Davison

Tell voters a little about your background and why you're deciding to run for Town Meeting (or why you're running for re-election).

I have served on Town Meeting since 2012. During that time I have missed 1 meeting. I take it seriously and represent our Precinct in all Town meetings and activities.

Why do you want to serve on Town Meeting?

I think it is important to stay involved in our community.

What do you see as your charge as a Town Meeting Member in your precinct?

Represent the interests of our neighborhoods in all votes and decisions.

What do you see as the three biggest priorities for Burlington and how should Town Meeting address them?

Continuing to provide outstanding services for our residents, including public safety and recreation, while recognizing the challenges faced by local small businesses during our current economic challenges. Town Meeting should focus on providing level services and look for savings through the budget process.

Managing the ongoing capital needs and need for ongoing infrastructure maintenance while keeping tax a low as possible. Town Meeting must make fiscally responsible

Protecting Burlington as a town while dealing with significant changes and challenges in terms of housing needs and changing retail environments.

How will you impact these important issues in your role as Town Meeting Member?

I serve as Chair of the Ways and Means Committee.

There are a number of building projects on the town's agenda that will impact tax bills for residents for decades to come. What do you think should be Town Meeting's role in the decision making process?

Two of the three current building projects (police station and Fox Hill) have been approved by Town Meeting and are in the early stages of the work. The BHS project is still in the study phase. All residents should be informed as to the current options on the table. Town Meeting will be asked to approve the financing of the project. The entire town will be asked to approve a debt exclusion on this project.

Low inventory and high prices have resulted in a nationwide housing crisis whose impacts can be felt in Burlington. What do you think Burlington has done right, and what does the town still lack, to address this issue?

The town's needs reflect the needs across the Commonwealth. There are not enough "starter homes" and middle housing. There are not enough opportunities for downsizing and staying in town. There are not enough options for our children to stay in the town they grew up in and that allow our police officers, firefighters, teachers, other town employees to live on our community.

How will you solicit input from your constituents?

I answer all phone calls and emails. I'm happy to visit with anyone about any issues.
