Daily Buzz | Town Meeting to Vote on Feasibility Study for New Police Station and more
And get your nonperishables now for this Saturday's food drive to benefit Disabled & Limbless Veterans
Good morning!
Town Meeting is tonight! That’s when 126 of your closest friends (aka your precinct representatives - 18 for each of our seven precincts) get together in the high school auditorium to review all the articles that have been sent to us between May and now. We’ll look at financial requests as well as general and zoning bylaw changes. My summary from yesterday has a high-level overview of the Warrant and Backup. Some items of note (of course, this is not an exhaustive list):
- $150,000 for a feasibility study for a new police station
- $80,000 to develop zoning to reimagine the area around Mall Road & Middlesex Turnpike
- Stormwater management
- Establishing a definition of “Smoke Shop”
- Groundwater separation from basements and crawlspaces to prevent flooding
Burlington Today
- 6:30 - Zoning Bylaw Review Committee will meet before Town Meeting to do a quick re-vote on the smoke shop article.
- 7:00 - Town Meeting. Cross your fingers we can get through the warrant in one evening!
This isn’t happening today, but I just found out about it yesterday and wanted to share: The Burlington Rotary Club, in partnership with Disabled & Limbless Veterans, is sponsoring a food drive this Saturday from 10-2 at the American Legion. Bring your non-perishable food and toiletries and benefit a Veteran in need.
Sports
Yesterday’s Scores
Varsity girls won in volleyball at Bedford 3-1 and JVB lost 0-2, JVA won 2-0. (I’m not sure which corresponds to Freshman and JV on the calendar, but I’ll find out.) Volleyball Player of the Match was Resha Thevaruban.
If I’m interpreting Twitter correctly, JV boys won their soccer game 2-1 at home against Wakefield and the girls tied at 0 on the road against Wakefield.
Today’s Schedule
- Golf plays Shawsheen at home at 3:30.
- Cross country is on the road this afternoon in Stoneham at 4:00.
- Freshman boys’ soccer is at Wakefield at 4:15.
- Field Hockey is in Wakefield as well, with Varsity playing at 4:15 and JV at 5:30.
Tune in to Twitter (and maybe elsewhere, who knows?!) for some live updates during Town Meeting!
See you tomorrow!
