Good Morning, Burlington!

I wanted to let you know I accidentally placed this week’s Conservation Commission meeting in the wrong location on the Weekly. It’s been updated there, and ConCom will meet on Thursday this week, as ever. Like usual, there is nothing on the town calendar for Friday—though there is a Chat and Craft session at the library from 10:30-12:00 if you’re a crafter who likes to socialize while you work.

Speaking of the Conservation Commission, you won’t see any seats for this Commission on the ballot this April. That’s because ConCom members are appointed by the Select Board. If you do want to be considered for appointment, or if you want to learn more, you can reach out to them by phone at 781-270-1655 or by email.

What does the Conservation Commission do? In short, they’re responsible for:

Ensuring the wetlands and the town residents live in harmony
Regulating stormwater
Taking care of Burlington’s conservation areas

To this end, they hold meetings roughly two Thursdays per month to discuss conservation initiatives in town and to review applications for construction, renovation, site work, or anything else that might affect the flow of water or our wetland areas.

1:00 PM - (library event) Monday Afternoon Bridge
6:00 PM - Select Board meets at Town Hall for what I can imagine will be a long first meeting back from the winter recess. They’ll be hearing several appointments, approving purchase of some conservation land parcels, discussing a liquor license application for a new spot on Cambridge Street called “Goodnight Johnny’s American Music Bar,” and more. But the main event promises to be the continued public hearing regarding the proposed construction of affordable senior housing behind Mountain Road, known as Winn View Heights II. You can read about the first part of the public hearing here. This hearing is not to approve the development per se, but rather to decide whether or not the Select Board will write a letter of support for this development to continue as planned. However, this kind of development doesn’t have to go to the Planning Board like most housing developments and instead goes straight to the Zoning Board of Appeals, which is one of many concerns abutting residents voiced at the last public hearing. Other concerns include the steep and winding access and the addition of traffic to an already congested area. If you’re in the Winnmere area and interested in this project either way, you can plan to join tonight’s Select Board meeting either online or in person. The portion devoted to this public hearing is scheduled to begin at approximately 7:45, and this is expected to be the final night of pubic hearings on the matter before the Select Board votes.
