I knew I was forgetting something yesterday; let me know if there are other events I haven’t mentioned!

• The Friends of the Library Book Sale is happening this weekend! head over to the library Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday to take advantage! That’s April 29, 30, and May 1. (Wait, did I just say May? Is 5 days away? I need to lie down.)
• Pine Glen Carnival is this Saturday, April 30.
• I finally got a proper picture on Saturday’s post. It’s likely no one cares but me, but I was out at the corner of Bedford and Cambridge yesterday, and so I got a nice pretty photo of the Museum. Click the link if you like pretty pictures of Burlington landmarks.

• A resolution was made recognizing the DPW.
• We have a new police dispatcher and two promotions from Lieutenant to Captain.
• An appointment was made to the Conservation Commission.
• A proclamation was made recognizing the Armenian genocide of 1915.
• May Town Meeting will be hybrid.
• The town has a AAA credit rating, which is … good. And we’re taking out some bonds. I hope I said that right.
• Steve Nugent opened his karate school in 1992. (Which was somehow 30 years ago?!?! Lying back down, with my big fan this time.) They’ve served in the tens of thousands of students in Burlington alone!
• We are submitting a statement of interest for MSBA funding for the high school for the 11th year in a row. We don’t get an official reason for denials, but to quote Select Board member Nick Priest, we miss 100% of the opportunities we don’t take, and so we are giving it another shot. This will not affect the Fox Hill project.
• Some community members have been using the Simonds Park parking lot for daily parking while taking the MBTA out of Burlington, and for this and other reasons some parking fines are being increased. It was noted that there’s not really any all-day parking options for people who need to take MBTA into the city.
• ISSAC presented about the cybersecurity work they’ve been doing around town. Some items they stressed were the importance of good email hygiene and readiness planning.
• The location of a liquor license was altered.
• Use of the Common was approved for Recreation Department programs this summer.
• The Board voted in favor of the 5 Town Meeting warrant articles that were presented for a vote. Learn more in the warrant (which is now live) and by attending Town Meeting on May 9 (and likely 11 and 16 as well).

Today in Burlington

Lots on the agenda today as we wrap up budget discussions ahead of May Town  Meeting.

• 8:00 AM - Ways & Means Subcommittee meets to discuss lots of different warrant articles, including 4th of July Parade, Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund, and a Route 3A Transportation Study.
• 9:00 AM - Another Ways & Means Subcommittee will discuss and vote on 2 articles for May Town Meeting - one about affordable housing coordination services and the other about 199 South Bedford Road.
• 9:30 AM - Yet another Ways & Means Subcommittee meets to review and vote on the article relating to the PEG Cable Access Enterprise Fund, to be presented at May Town Meeting.
• 5:30 PM - Zoning Bylaw Review Sign Subcommittee will continue their discussions of signage rules and regulations. (Join via Zoom)
• 6:00 PM - Shawsheen Facilities Subcommittee will be reviewing and voting on their Statement of Interest.
• 7:00 PM - Board of Health will be discussing mosquito control and an application for a special permit. (Join via Webex)
• 7:00 PM - School Committee holds a public hearing regarding the upcoming school year’s budget. They’ll also discuss capital warrant articles for May Town Meeting, along with a Safe Routes to School update, National History Day update and much more. (Join via Webex)
• 7:30 PM - Shawsheen School Committee holds their regular meeting, during which they will discuss, among other things, the last day of school, some administrative hires, and hold a public hearing about school choice in the upcoming academic year. (Watch on YouTube)
