Daily Buzz | No Need to Take Out Those Barrels Today
Plus, the results are (mostly) in on the Governor's Council poll
Good Morning, Burlington!
Super short note for you today:
- Trash and Recycling pickup is delayed this week due to the holiday, which explains why your barrels are the only ones on the curb. Roll them back to the house and put them out for pickup tomorrow.
- The results of the Twitter and Facebook polls are in, and about 40% of folks say they know what Governor’s Council is and could explain it to someone else. Another 40%, however, have never heard of it! A travesty, I say, as someone who hadn’t heard of it until about two weeks ago. This weekend I’ll (hopefully) have some time to put together a piece on Governor’s Council and why it’s so important, but the executive overview is that the GC advises the Governor in matters of appointment - including judges and members of boards like the Parole Board, Appellate Board, and Industrial Accident Board - and with respect to pardons and commutations for individuals who are incarcerated.
- Since you asked, the smelly water situation has been more or less figured out and mostly resolved. According to Russ from the water treatment plant, this time of year there’s some seasonal turnover of the water in the reservoir - as this happens, because the weather is warm, the organic compounds in the water move into the gaseous state which means we can smell them in the air. Most of the odor, for us, at least, has gone away by this point but I thought I’d update you on what we found out.
- That’s not the end of the water concerns, though - Mill Pond is very low, and so is the Shawsheen River. I hope my neighbors are observing the outdoor automated watering ban, to protect the water we do have.
That’s it for today. Nothing is on the town calendar, so I just wish you a lovely day and we’ll catch each other tomorrow.
