It’s here—the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The town communication survey is open!
Background: Part of Select Board member Nick Priest’s platform when he ran for office in 2020 was that he would work to improve the communication between the town and its residents. Last year, the Select Board began working with the Collins Center at UMASS to audit how communication happens (and doesn’t). The Collins Center gave a presentation at the Select Board a few months ago, during which they made a few recommendations.
As a part of the next phase of information gathering, they are trying to reach as many Burlington residents as possible to learn how residents receive or prefer to receive their communication from the Town and its various departments. Please, please please do the following!

Also in town news, The General Bylaw Review Committee has begun making its rounds to gather input from town Boards about the articles they plan to propose to Town Meeting in September, creating a home rule that allows hybrid meetings for Town Meeting and the other Boards that make up our town government without an in-person quorum. They stopped in to Select Board last night, where they were met with enthusiasm as well as a handful of questions that they plan to address as they do more work on the articles. Expect to see more of this, including tonight at both the Rules committee and the Board of Health.

Did you know that that 1 in 5 households with children across the Commonwealth are facing hunger right now? With so many struggling during this challenging time, no one should worry about where their next meal will come from or if they'll able to feed their children. People Helping People has assembled a team to participate in Project Bread’s annual Walk For Hunger. Sixty percent of funds raised will directly benefit People Helping People, and the other 40% will support Project Bread’s anti-hunger efforts across Massachusetts. Team People Helping People will be walking 3 miles around the Burlington High School Field Track on Sunday, May 7th at 10:00am. Join the team to help raise money or donate to support the Walk!

- 9:00 AM - Ways and Means Committee - DPW/Rec Subcommittee will review the Town Meeting warrant articles for the Recreation Department (Human Services Building)
- 11:00 AM - Free blood pressure screen at the library
- 6:00 PM - D&D For Beginners at the library (Register)
- 7:00 PM - Board of Health will hear from GBRC about hybrid meetings, discuss Mama Bear Effect, and a Keeping of Animals permit and a variance for an unattended food establishment. (Town Hall and virtual)
- 7:00 PM - Rules Committee will discuss hybrid meetings with GBRC, as well as TM vacancies and vttendance. (Town Hall Annex)
- 7:00 PM - School Committee will have its first meeting since Jeremy Brooks earned a seat. They’ll discuss, among other things, the 2023-24 school calendar and a few other policies, and they’ll close with a budget session and a vote to approve the FY2024 budget. (BHS and virtual)
Sports and Activities
- Lacrosse: Girls fell to Bedford 16-12, while boys eked out an 11-10 win.
- Tennis: Boys shut out Stoneham 5-0, and girls brought home a 4-1 victory.
- Softball: With some great pitching and strong hits, Varsity took home a solid 8-2 W.
- Baseball: Varsity lost to Lexington 12-2.
Our volleyball team hosts Winchester this afternoon, with JV playing at 4:00 and Varsity at 5:30.
