Also, Town Meeting to vote on Winn View Heights II resolution

Daily Buzz | Burlington to Host Seminar for Current and Future Elected Officials

Hello, Burlington!

Thanks for reading yesterday’s summary of Town Meeting and what your representatives will be discussing and voting on. Three more things on that topic:

  • Jeremy Harrington is the new Town Meeting Member in Precinct 2.
  • There are still two vacancies in Precinct 7. There’s a map at the bottom of this post and at the Town website. Precinct 7 is roughly the southern corner of town bordering Woburn and Lexington.
  • After they’re finished voting on the 16 Warrant Articles before them, Town Meeting members will be asked to vote on a non-binding resolution to express opposition to the Winn View Heights II project that is proposed to be built on Mountain Road. There has been much discussion about this project, and while the Select Board originally voted 2-1-1 (one member was absent that day) not to provide a letter of support to the developer, a new vote was held with the full Board present and the vote was 3-2 in favor. However, the proponent has not requested that signature from the Select Board yet.
The proposed resolution refers in part to 30 waivers requested by the proponents of the project, “including those that relate to health and safety and community provisions that are the standard part of approving housing in Burlington.” The  Zoning Board of Appeals would be the sole permitting authority for this project, bypassing the Planning Board and Conservation Commission. If approved, the resolution would request that the ZBA reject the project at its first meeting. Read more about the project and its opposition.

That Town Meeting Summary is now posted.

Burlington to Host Seminar for Current and Future Elected Officials

Next Thursday, the town will be hosting a session for new, current, or prospective members of Boards, Committees, and Commissions.

This opportunity is presented in response to questions our Town Clerk has heard from Board/Committee/Commission members about their roles and responsibilities. There is no charge for the event, and refreshments will be served. This event is not exclusively for Burlington residents, so if you know someone in a neighboring town who would like to participate, send them on over!

The seminar will be held on Thursday, September 28, from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Murray-Kelly Room at 61 Center Street, Burlington. RSVP to Burlington Town Clerk, Amy Warfield, by email so your hosts can be sure they have enough seats for all attendees.
