Hello, Burlington!

Members of Burlington’s Historical Society will gather tonight at 7:00 in the Human Services Building to share stories of World War II. This first event of its kind held by the Society will feature stories handed down to Historical Society Members by their family members who served in the armed forces during WWII.

All are welcome to this no-cost event, and light refreshments will be served. The building is accessible so anyone who wants to attend can be there! Doors open at 6:30.

Burlington Law Enforcement Hosts Safety Events for Schools, Religious Houses

Burlington Police today and tomorrow will be hosting the first regional I Love U Guys School Safety Symposium for law enforcement professionals focused on how to respond to and recover from emergencies in schools. Three keynote speakers will talk about their own experiences and how to create a safe school in today’s world. Registration is closed, and while these are things we shouldn’t have to think about, it’s important to highlight that our community is engaged in planning for such situations.

Registration is also open for the Protecting Houses of Worship training on Tuesday, November 7. Members of BPD will lead faith leaders and their volunteers and employees through various sessions designed to improve safety and plan for emergencies. The event offers three different sessions.

  • Session 1 - basic security concepts and response to an active threat (for faith leaders & professionals)
  • Session 2 - de-escalation and mental health support/response (for faith leaders & professionals)
  • Session 3 - de-escalation and response to active threat for volunteers/informal staff such as ushers and greeters

This event was originally scheduled for October 20. Register for the new date.
