Daily Buzz | Burlington Earns $50K Grant from the State
The funds will support the rezoning initiative near the mall
Good Morning, Neighbors!
I have some good news today: the Town of Burlington has received a grant from the state Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to support sustainable land use planning efforts. The $50,000 will be used to support the rezoning project approved by Town Meeting in September to work over the Mall Road and Middlesex Turnpike area.
From Ellen Murphy in the Economic Development Office,
The upcoming rezoning initiative will create a regulatory framework to achieve five goals identified in the concept plan:
- Economic Vitality – creating an inclusive regional research and innovation center;
- Reinvestment – unlocking development potential in surface parking areas;
- Placemaking – creating a mixed-use neighborhood that reduces commuting and invites workers back to the workplace;
- Mobility – creating networks of pedestrian and bike friendly environments supplemented by transit; and
- Zoning Predictability – providing a clear regulatory environment to signal civic goals.
This is an exciting time for Burlington! Find more information on the grant and the rezoning initiative here. If you have questions or interest around this project, you can email the Economic Development office at ed@burlington.org.
