Daily Buzz | Burlington Celebrates Completion of Essential Water Projects

Good Morning, Burlington!

In preparing for this morning’s Buzz, I mistakenly emailed an article I was going to link here. Sorry for two emails!

Also, welcome to those of you joining us today after last night’s Beer Garden! By all accounts, the 2024 season opener was a success, and I can’t wait to do it all over again for the next three Thursdays. Feel free to read more about the Buzz and check out the website for information about Local Government and our Community.

Big news this week is the celebration of the completion of two huge projects that will impact the growth of Burlington and the health of its community members.

Phase 2A of Burlington’s connection to the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority has been completed, increasing the flow from this huge municipal water source to 2.5 million gallons per day. Drought conditions and the unavailability of the Vine Brook water source due to dioxane contamination have brought outdoor water use restrictions in many recent years. With the completion of this phase of the MWRA connection, and the expected completion of the full project in 2025, we will enjoy reliable water in our town from years to come.

The PFAS filters installed at the Mill Pond water treatment facility were also completed this summer, and filtration is now in service. At his Town Hall on Wednesday, Congressman Seth Moulton praised the collaborative efforts of our town and the state to build these filters and bring them online just two years after the town found that our water didn’t meet new standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Both of these projects were partially or fully made possible with state and federal funding.

One more thing you (or a young person you know) might be interested in is a medical study being conducted by a Burlington-based company that is paying $100 to 20-25-year-olds who meet certain conditions. Read more below and use the link to learn more!
