Hive Roundup #7 | Draft Town Meeting Warrant Posted; Winning Week in Sports & Activities
Also, Town Website gets AudioEye certification
Hello, Friends, and thank you for being members of the Hive.
Ninety percent of those of you who answered last week’s survey said this was a valuable thing for me to be doing, so I’ll keep doing it! I will be skipping next week, though, because lots of the people and entities I cover are (officially, anyway) on vacation.
Here’s what I’ve got for you today:
- Accessibility Compliance for Town Website
- BHS Robotics Raffle Brings In Funding for Team
- Town Meeting Draft Warrant Posted
- Electronic Sign Article Will Go to Town Meeting
- Strong Week in Sports and Activities
Accessibility Compliance for Town Website
The Town Clerk’s office this week announced it has secured AudioEye certification for the Town website. This is a process by which the website is automatically and manually reviewed for accessibility issues, and options for enhancing accessibility for those who need it are offered with the click of a button.
Being AudioEye certified will make the website inclusive of those with visual and motor impairments, and others needing accessibility options not provided before. To access the accessibility menu, click the person icon in the bottom right corner of any page on the burlington.org website.
BHS Robotics Raffle Brings In Funding for Team
The Robotics Raffle concluded this week, bringing in about $1200 for the team’s operational costs and gifting a beautiful ring to one lucky winner. The BHS FIRST Robotics team travels around the state competing with other schools, and the travel and equipment are costly. The money raised from this raffle will cover 10-20% of the cost of operating this season!
If you’re interested in supporting the DevilBotz, you still can—just visit their GoFundMe page.
Town Meeting Draft Warrant Posted; Electronic Sign Article Will Go to Town Meeting
The draft Warrant for January Town Meeting was posted this week on the town’s website, and at a glance it appears pretty short and straightforward. However, a handful of articles will without a doubt provoke some spirited discussion from both the “for” and “against” sides. I’ll post a whole separate piece when the backup is available, but two things you have to look forward to:
- A change in the zoning bylaws that would allow an electronic sign to be displayed on the Town Common
- A petition to codify hybrid access to Town Meeting and other municipal meetings into our town bylaws
Strong Week in Sports and Activities
This was a huge week in Burlington Sports and Activities, and I’d say the Red Devils went into break on a high note—even after a couple of losses.
FIRST LEGO League Robotics Team attended the state competition last weekend, securing 2nd place in Innovation Project and making themselves, their coach, and their community super proud!
Basketball: Varsity Girls took their first W of the season against Leominster; boys took their first loss, but they are still going into break with a 3-1 record.
Hockey: Varsity Girls kept up their undefeated record against Lexington, and are sitting at 4-0.
Wrestling: Looks like these boys are taking an undefeated 2-0 record into break, as well.
Swimming: Our Boys’ team lost this week against Lexington, but will have the break to regroup. Current record: 1-1.
Indoor track and field: Both boys and girls won against Watertown for a 2-0 record on the season.
Congrats to these hardworking players and their coaches!
I hope you have a lovely day, week, and signoff to 2022. See you in your inbox!
