Good Morning, Burlington!

It’s April, which for many of us means spring cleaning. But spring cleaning doesn’t have to be restricted to the indoors. Join Bring Me to Burlington, Burlington's Conservation Department, and Keep Burlington Beautiful as they work to Beautify Burlington this month. I also wanted to share some information about a project that has popped up in the Buzz a few times in the last two weeks. The developers responsible for the District (the area where Tuscan Kitchen, Pressed, et al are located) are in the process of submitting a new proposal for how they plan to design this space. They acquired it nearly a decade ago, and their original plan doesn’t suit today’s market as well as they’d hoped.

With this new three-phase plan, some components of the initial plan, such as the semi-completed river walk, will be completed, while others will be replaced with a new vision. Most notably, there will be three new buildings and added green space. That green space will be set back a ways from Mall Road, which will make it a little quieter, but the town will hopefully install some signs to let people know about this future hidden gem.

This project hasn’t been approved yet, but I look forward to seeing what comes of the area!

Did you know that that 1 in 5 households with children across the Commonwealth are facing hunger right now? With so many struggling during this challenging time, no one should worry about where their next meal will come from or if they'll able to feed their children. People Helping People has assembled a team to participate in Project Bread’s annual Walk For Hunger. Sixty percent of funds raised will directly benefit People Helping People, and the other 40% will support Project Bread’s anti-hunger efforts across Massachusetts. Team People Helping People will be walking 3 miles around the Burlington High School Field Track on Sunday, May 7th at 10:00am. Join the team to help raise money or donate to support the Walk!

Sports and Activities

Our softball team won both their JV and Varsity games in Winchester on Monday. Yesterday, our boys’ lacrosse team won lost against Winchester 11-3 and girls lost 13-10 in a suspenseful back and forth. JV lost their game as well. In volleyball, JV lost 0-2 and Varsity won 3-0, leaving their records at 0-2 and 2-0 on the season, respectively.

Today we’ve got:

• Baseball in reading, with Freshmen playing at 4:00 and Varsity at 4:15
• Tennis against Lexington, with boys hosting at 4:00 and girls playing on the road at 4:15
• Softball at 4:15 against reading, with JV playing at Rotary Field and Varsity at Marvin Field.

Looking ahead, our robotics team, the DevilBotz, made it to the New England District competitions at the Big E in Springfield. They’ll be competing there Thursday to Saturday. Go get ’em, Botz!
