Daily Buzz | Eversource Seeks to Add Energy Supply in Burlington

Good Morning, Burlington!

Eversource is in the initial outreach stages of a plan to add a new electrical substation in Burlington by the year 2028.

Currently, our town’s electricity is supplied by a single substation on Middlesex turnpike, but that source has been stretched ever thinner in recent years. Supplying over 90% of our residents with electricity, the substation is also at or above 90% of capacity, and Eversource is seeking a solution to lighten the load.

The energy company has started reaching out to municipal and other stakeholders to announce the proposed location of the substation and communicate to the community the necessity and benefits of this project. The plan is to place the station near the intersection of the existing transmission lines that run through the town in a more central location than the existing station. In addition to adding supply, the utility plans to upgrade the surrounding infrastructure, leading to more reliable service.

To learn more about this project, see this one-pager and this PowerPoint (map of proposed location on Slide 6). You can also sign up for the mailing list to be notified of updates and opportunity to engage in the process.
