Weekly Buzz | The Sculpture Park Wants Your Art!
And, help congratulate our prize winners
Good Morning, Burlington!
Despite being school vacation week, this week is set up to be a busy one, with a public forum on hazardous waste cleanup, at least one campaign kickoff for this April’s election, Black History Month events, and plenty of activities and municipal meetings to keep folks of all ages busy.
Don’t forget that town offices, schools, the library, and Buzz HQ will be closed—and waste pickup will be delayed until Friday morning—due to the Presidents’ Day holiday.

The Sculpture Park Wants to Display Your Art!
The Sculpture Park is planning big things for this summer.
Since it was established in 2020, the Sculpture Park has cycled through two sets of sculptures. Each sculpture is leased for two years, and at the end of that period the town returns the sculpture to its artist. In a couple of cases, the Sculpture Park has purchased works, such as Follow Your Heart by Mark Wholey, which is now installed at the corner of the Town Common near Havoc the dog, and Global Warming, which was purchased from Ukrainian Sculptor Nikita Zigura in an effort to support his relocation efforts when the conflict in Ukraine began in 2022.
The second sculpture cycle is coming to an end, and the Sculpture Park has put out a call for artists for the 2024 installation. According to the official announcement, “Family-oriented, possibly musical, and interactive pieces are desired but all works that the public can safely enjoy are welcome.” The window for submission is open from now until April 15, and the Sculpture Park Committee is eager to see what innovative works of art are submitted this time around. Get more information and submit your art.
And, in another piece of sculpture-related news, the Sculpture Park is preparing for this summer’s Pigs on Parade installation on the Town Common, intended to both raise money for the Sculpture Park and raise awareness about local businesses that support Burlington’s economy and social scene.
Businesses can purchase a blank pig sculpture from the Sculpture Park and have it painted in line with their branding for display on the Town Common this summer from June 15 through August 31. After August, the hope is that businesses display their pig on their property and that the Sculpture Park can create a map of all Burlington’s decorated pigs!
Two different sizes of pig sculptures will be available for businesses to purchase and have painted: full-size sows for $2000 and smaller piglets for $800, for businesses with fewer than 10 employees. Reach out to the Sculpture Park for details about how to contribute to this fun and innovative project!

The hockey team won at home yesterday against Wilmington, as well, with a score of 3-1. Lady Devils, who already hold the winningest record in BHS history, brought home a 3-2 W today from Wellesley.
Girls’ basketball lost their game 36-48.

That’s all for today, neighbor! I hope you have a lovely day, and remember—Buzz HQ is closed tomorrow. We’ll see you on Tuesday!
