Weekly Buzz | Legion Riders Show Gratitude With Free Groceries for Vets

Hello, Burlington!

I hope you’re enjoying your extra hour today. And if you have young children, I wish you easy naps and bedtimes and endless patience and coffee.

This is the first of a few pre-planned Buzz issues sent in my absence, as I will be away without access to internet for a bit. The Busy Bees are working hard behind the scenes to make sure you have all the information you need while I am away, and there will be a lighter schedule with few meetings and some holiday observances in there, too. If you need to get in touch with me, please know it could be a week or more before I’m able to respond.

Try not to miss me too much!

Oh—and a couple of quick things:

  • Adopt-a-Class 2030 is holding their annual Thanksgiving pie fundraiser this year, and today is the last day to order a pie. They’ll be available for pickup on Sunday, November 19, in the MSMS Cafeteria.
  • The UCC Burlington Online Auction runs from today until 8:00 PM next Saturday, November 11. Bid on more than 130 items, including vacation getaways, themed baskets, seats at a wine tasting, handcrafted greeting cards, jewelry, golf passes, and gift cards for restaurants, clothing stores, a fitness club, bookstore, nail salon barber shop, coffee shop, and more!  Learn more here.

Legion Riders Show Gratitude With Free Groceries for Vets

Burlington veterans were surprised on Saturday with a not-so-random act of kindness.

The local chapter of the Legion Riders, the motorcycle-loving branch of the American Legion known for their charitable work for veterans and their families, spent the day picking up the supermarket tab for Burlington vets.

The event was held to express gratitude to those who served in the military, said Burlington School Committee Member and Chapter 273 Sergeant at Arms, Jeremy Brooks. “The American Legion Riders are deeply committed to the well-being of veterans,” Brooks said, adding that the Riders are dedicated to improving lives “not just [for] veterans, but [for] their community as well.”

This year, Chapter 273 has worked to raise money for the Jeanne Geiger Criss Center, a local center dedicated to ending domestic violence, as wall as installing wheelchair ramps to support accessibility for individuals with mobility issues.

Support the Riders by donating to Chapter 273, or if you’re a veteran or descendant of one, you can join up and get involved. “Together,” says Brooks, “we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and our community.”

Sports and Activities

We’ve still got some teams in the finals, with our football team moving to the Elite Eight after their 34-21 win in Norwood. Their next game will be against Tewksbury this Friday. The BHS volleyball team will play in Duxbury on Tuesday, and the Shawsheen volleyball team will play at Wayland on the same day. The soccer team played Grafton yesterday but unfortunately the game ended their season. Thanks for the effort this season, ladies!

This week, the MSMS Junior Devils football team has a championship game at Concord.

That’s it for today. Enjoy your week!
