Weekly Buzz | A New Opportunity to Have Your Voice Heard
The Buzz brings TownVote civic engagement feature to all readers
Special announcement: Thanks to the support of readers like you, our new website and newsletter service are under construction and will be debuting on March 25 and 26, respectively. In the meantime, you might get an extra email or two as we prepare everything for the transition. We expect the things to run pretty seamlessly, but let us know if you notice anything weird. Thank you for your patience!
Hello, Burlington, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to those who celebrate! Don’t miss the festivities at Common Craft and the pop-up event from the Recreation Department while the sun is still out, among other celebrations.
The Burlington Parks & Recreation Department is working on its Outdoor Facilities Master Plan, and they want your feedback. This is the last week to fill out the survey, so be sure to make sure to let the town know what your priorities are for outdoor recreation in Burlington! Fill out the survey here.
A New Opportunity to Have Your Voice Heard
For the last several months, the Buzz has been working with civic engagement platform VoteLight to bring a special feature to our Hive members. And today, we are opening this feature up to everyone.
TownVote gives anyone in Burlington the opportunity to weigh in on important issues affecting the town. Anyone in town can “vote” and state their opinion on Issues that are facing the town. Here are some of the Issues that have already been created:
- What housing-related issues are highest-priority in Burlington?
- What issues are most important in the Select Board and School Committee elections?
- Should the sale of alcohol be allowed in places other than dedicated liquor stores?
In the leadup to the 2024 local election and May Town Meeting, we can use this platform to gather opinions from residents like you regarding the most important issues affecting our town. Elected officials can interact with voters here and use this information to make decisions based on the will of the voters.
You’ll need to create an account the first time you use VoteLight, in order to verify your location to match you with your national, state, and local voting districts. After that, you can create and vote on Issues of interest to voters in our town. (It is suggested you sign up as a voter first with a personal email or account, and if you’re an elected official you can later use an official email address to claim an official profile later on.)
Read more in our official announcement from July 2023, when we introduced this partnership to Hive members, and leave a comment on this post or email us if you have any questions!
