The 354 Bus Line: “Boston Express”
One of Burlington’s best kept secrets
Good morning! Today I wanted to shed light on one of Burlington’s best-kept secrets, courtesy of my friend and oft-hailed photographer, Barbara Martinez. I’ll be back with the Weekly tomorrow. Enjoy!
“You moved to the burbs!?”
Guilty as charged. Two years ago, my family left our beloved Boston neighborhood after more than two decades in the city to be closer to family and friends. We love our new home, our new neighbors, and the many wonderful amenities of our new town. We miss Arnold Arboretum, ordering takeout at 10pm, and quirky neighborhood festivals. To our surprise, however, there’s one thing we don’t have to miss: easy public transportation to downtown.
Public transportation is one of the defining benefits of city life. As a longtime Bostonian, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve paid for downtown parking. Why spend $50 to park my car when I could get there for a couple bucks on the T? Imagine my excitement when I realized I could walk to the bus stop off the Burlington Town Common, get on an express bus for $4.25, and arrive not 100 feet from my company’s downtown office!
Not gonna lie. I might have squealed.
For residents of Burlington, the 354 bus line provides a hassle-free commute, eliminating the need to drive in congested traffic or search for affordable parking in the city. As Burlington is one of the first stops, finding a seat is all but guaranteed. And by choosing the bus line, Burlington residents not only save money but also contribute to environmental sustainability. Public transportation significantly reduces carbon emissions and traffic congestion, making it an eco-friendly choice benefiting the entire community. The bus drops commuters off at the Old State House - a central location to the financial district, Boston City Hall, Quincy Market, and both Orange and Green lines of the T.
The 354 bus line is a commuter express bus, so trips are limited to commuting hours. Check the MBTA website and use the trip planner tool to find a route that best meets your transportation needs. The 354 is an amazing benefit to Burlington residents—a hidden jewel and best-kept secret, connecting our suburban town to the bustle of downtown Boston—driving and parking hassles not included.
