Roots Yoga - New Owner, Same Great Community
Roots Yoga is starting fresh with a new owner who is determined to keep the community feel and welcoming culture of the studio.
Roots Yoga, a fixture of the Town Center for over a decade, has a new owner.
The studio, opened by Ginger Boermeester in 2012, was purchased in June by Leah Kalinoski, long-time student and certified instructor of yoga. But while Leah wants to bring fresh ideas to the studio, she remains committed to keeping the warm and welcoming culture that has characterized Roots for years.
Leah first came to yoga in 2012 after a spinal fusion left her struggling to find comfort and confidence in movement. “I was sick of being in pain,” she said, and so she turned toward holistic ways of healing her body, such as acupuncture and yoga. Roots was just opening, and after a few private lessons with Boermeester, she fell in love with the practice.
After studying for several years, Kalinoski became a certified yoga instructor in 2016 and has amassed a number of certifications, from gentle & chair yoga to power yoga and everything in between. “Everyone comes to their mat for different reasons,” she said, and it’s important to meet everyone where they are. The studio leans on the foundations of yoga, emphasizing the mind-body connection.
Leah plans to keep the current class lineup while “enhancing what we already offer.” To that end, she’s hired three permanent teachers and two substitutes since taking the reins in June, as well as adding two more classes to the lineup. Roots offers a full complement of yoga classes for people of all levels from beginner to advanced, including classes designed to focus on different areas of the body, heated classes, meditation, and much more.
Kalinoski is excited to continue nurturing the studio’s values of community, connection, and non-judgment as she brings Roots into its next chapter.
Roots is located at 220 Cambridge Street, in the plaza at Town Center near Pizza Works and True North.
