Hang With the Buzz at Celebrate Burlington 2024
The event many Burlingtonians await each year is back in just a few short days, and attendees will have even more opportunities to learn about and celebrate the town's history at Celebrate Burlington 2024.
Celebrate Burlington, formerly known as Burlington Pride Day, was started by local basketball coach, Bill Boudreau. In its original form, it was a carnival to benefit muscular dystrophy research with plywood basketball hoops fastened to the light poles on the Town Common. The celebration continued to grow, and in 2010 it was expanded to a full-day celebration under the direction of Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation, Kelly Lehman.
Now, says Parks & Recreation Director, Brendan Egan, the name Celebrate Burlington aptly reflects the purpose of the day: "It's a day for Burlington Parks & Recreation to say thank you to the community for everything they do to us," and for the businesses and nonprofits to share their work with the community. Sponsored by a cross-section of local businesses (including Burlington Buzz!), the day features inflatables, food trucks, and entertainment such as music, children's performers, and a karate demonstration throughout the day, followed by a classic car show in the afternoon and fireworks in the evening.
This year, on the 225th anniversary of Burlington's incorporation, a special addition will be featured: a historic narrated trolley tour, hosted by the Historical Commission, will be leaving from Town Hall twice during the celebration and visiting various historic locations around town. While the trolley won't stop at an of the locations, the Burlington Public Museum and the Wyman House will both be open that day.
