Flooded Parking Lot Resolution Has Begun
The group that owns Vine Brook Plaza at 101 Middlesex Turnpike, where Wendy's and Duluth Trading currently are located, and where Tatté Bakery will soon take up residence, has engineered a solution to the flooding which has created a nuisance and a safety issue in the parking lot for the last several years (but has produced many adorable baby geese).
Earlier this year, a plan made its way through the relevant town Boards and Commissions to raise the elevation of the area of concern in the parking lot and improve drainage in the area. While the plan will result in the removal of four parking spaces, the net parking area will likely increase as spots that have been unusable for at least half a decade will be available once more.
Since the raised area is in the flood plain, a compensatory water storage area will be dug out to ensure flooding doesn't occur elsewhere along Vine Brook. Brixmor Property Group, who owns the property, has begun this work and hopes that, with the addition of catch basin areas, the increase in elevation, and the additional landscaping, the area will not only be usable but also more attractive.
