Third Graders Interview Local Leaders

Third graders at Francis Wyman recently had the opportunity to learn about community leaders and the civic process as a part of a social studies unit entitled “My Burlington,” which encourages students to explore Burlington’s past and present. Students learn how citizens, elected officials, and employees have shaped the town in the past and continue to do so.

To finish out the unit, several local leaders stopped by the school to be interviewed by the third graders. Town Meeting Members and other town employees shared their experience collaborating to make Burlington even better, giving dimension to the students’ studies.

You can read more and see pictures from this very engaging day at the Science Center’s website.

Special thanks to Town Meeting Members Kevin Spielberger, Schiffon Wong, Shari Ellis, and Betsey Hughes, Town Clerk Amy Warfield, School Committee Member Martha Simon, Parks & Recreation Director Brendan Egan, Assistant Conservation Administrator, Eileen Coleman, and BPS Director of Mental Health Christine Conceison for taking the time to visit some very appreciative students, and to the Francis Wyman staff—especially the third grade teachers—who hosted our community leaders.
