Daily Buzz | The Buzz Turns Two Today

Good Morning!

Today is a very special day for Burlington Buzz, and we can’t wait to share it with you! But, if you’ll excuse us for just a moment…

*Tuning fork sounds…*

Happy birthday to us,
Happy birthday to us!
Happy birthday, happy birthday.
Happy birthday to the Buzz!

Yes, that’s right! Two years ago today, Burlington Buzz sent out the first of what has become a daily newsletter serving 1,600 email subscribers and many more website visitors and social media followers.

By the time the Buzz came on the scene, local news coverage had been declining for so long that many Burlington residents didn’t realize what a gap had been left between home life and national politics. Through local-election-related posts and profiles of the town’s elected Boards, we set out to connect Burlington residents with the town departments and elected offices that support our everyday life here. But the Buzz has become much more than that.

Burlington Buzz is a community spreading out to touch all different parts of life in our town. We have connected over coffee, cocktails, and Beer Gardens. We’ve met up at Pride, Celebrate Burlington, and Truck Day. We’ve promoted events, fundraisers, and new businesses. And every day, we grow.

We’ve been recognized by Local Independent Online News (LION) Publishers as a leader in Community Engagement, featured on WGBH and on the What Works podcast, and mentioned by local news expert and journalism professor Dan Kennedy on WBZ and at many talks on the landscape of local news.

Through our election coverage, we bring potential candidates together with the information they need to secure their nomination and follow that coverage through so voters know who—and what—they’re voting on. And with our Civic Expo just last month, we got residents and the municipal employees and elected officials that represent them under one roof to get to know one another.

With our first-ever seasonal Guide, we connected residents with businesses, activities, and resources to enrich their lives this winter. And the next Guide is right around the corner.

And, almost everything the Buzz does is free to everyone, forever.

To support our work, we rely on reader contributions as well as business partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising.

Your small donation can help the Buzz do even more this year

To help us celebrate our second birthday, how about making a one-time contribution to help support all the great coverage outlined above? We fell short of our winter fundraising goal but were able to fund the first year of an event calendar for our website, which we are already testing and will be unveiling in a few short weeks. This new tool will allow you to input and promote your own events, help you find local events that match your interests, and more.

Also under development is the website itself. If each person who receives this email contributed just $1.56 today, we’d have no trouble funding our new content management system and newsletter platform for the next year. Put in more realistic terms, if just 10% of readers contributed $15.60, we would reach our goal easily. Will you hep us raise $2500 in the next 24 hours to fund the rest of the website through 2024 and beyond?

Nicci & the Busy Bees working behind the scenes appreciate your support more than we can say!
