Good Morning, Burlington!

It’s always a good day to support local organizations, and today we’ve got three for you.

First is the Raffle Rouser, created by the Friends of the Burlington Public Library. From now until September 29, you can buy a raffle ticket and enter to win one of a huge handful of prizes, from gift cards for local businesses & a bag of groceries to homemade textiles and items signed by former local pro athletes Kike Hernandez & Connor Clifton.

Tickets are on sale now at the library. Proceeds from the Raffle Rouser will support Burlington Public Library programming for children and adults.

If you’re passionate about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education, right now is a great time to support a local business and have your contribution count three times.

Einstein’s Workshop is a woman-owned local business focused on growing K-12 students into innovators in STEAM, and they’ve been accepted into a grant program which will be double-matched by the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation until they’ve met their goal.

The grant focuses on woman-, veteran-, and minority-owned businesses, and funds will be used to purchase new computers and equipment to replace outdated (8-10-year-old) computers, including Chromebooks that are so old they can no longer be updated with new software!

You can make a donation (matched by Einstein’s Workshop)  toward a scholarship for a family who could use one; additionally, there are incentives, like credits toward classes and gifts made at Einstein’s Workshop, at each level of giving. Finally, the BHS Volleyball Team’s Spike Out Cancer fundraiser is on October 15, and t-shirts are now available to support the fundraising efforts. They’re pretty awesome this year; buy yours.

Municipal Meetings and Community Events

• 10:30 AM - Baby Storytime at the library
• 6:00 PM - Burlington Youth and Family Services will meet; their agenda is pretty bare, so it’s not certain what they’ll be discussing. (33 Center Street)
• 6:00 PM - Recreation Commission will approve contracts for pickleball court resurfacing and a Parks & Recreation Master Plan, as well as portable solar lights at Mary Cummings Park. (BHS)
• 6:00 PM - Select Board will discuss AMC special hours for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour showing, single-day liquor licenses for Wegmans, the annual Saheli event on the Town Common, and more.  (Town Hall and Virtual)
• 6:30 PM - Club 50 Game Night at the library

Sports and Activities

BHS came out on top of Westborough last Friday in football with a 13-12 win. The varsity volleyball team took home a 3-0 win over Tewksbury.

Boys and girls lost their soccer games against Winchester 8-0 and 4-1, respectively, on Saturday, while field hockey lost in a 6-0 shutout to Reading.

We’ve got field hockey and volleyball today:

• Volleyball in Reading; freshman and JV at 4:30, varsity at 5:45.
• Field Hockey at home against Lexington, with varsity playing at 4:15 and JV at 5:30 (weather permitting).
