Daily Buzz | Spooky Season and Fall Events to Enjoy This Weekend in Burlington

Good Morning, Burlington!

Have you heard of the Switch Witch? This cool chick relieves children of all/most of their candy after trick-or-treating and replaces it with a gift. The Switch Witch can visit anyone but is especially popular in homes with allergies. She sprinkles the candy she collects around various donation spots around town, and it is then sent to service members overseas. Win-Win-Win!

Spooky Season and Fall Events to Enjoy This Weekend in Burlington

It’s hard to miss that Halloween is coming. Outdoor decorations are getting spookier each year, and already kids and adults alike are sporting their costumes to Trunk or Treats, Fall Festivals, and other events. And whether you dive headfirst into Halloween or don’t celebrate it, there is something for you this weekend in Burlington.

Kick off the festive weekend with a Halloween party at Wayside this afternoon or a tween Mario Kart tournament at the library. After recharging from that, you can get through all of Saturday without having to go home (and houses can’t get messy if no one is there to mess them up!). Start with a trip to town-wide shredding day, continue with kids’ Halloween yoga at Roots to benefit the food pantry, and then head to the Sculpture Park to enjoy some hot chocolate (still tasty even though it’s supposed to be 80 that day) and churros. After that, the Halloween Spooktacular and Candy Crane Drop at Simonds Park promises to be fun for all.

Town-wide trick-or-treating will happen on Tuesday, October 31. There’s no official start time, but my family usually heads out around 6:00. I’m sure I’ll see some of you out there!

And remember:

  • The porch light is the Halloween Bat Signal (pun absolutely intended). An illuminated outside light lets trick-or-treaters know you’re handing out treats; when you run out, or if you’re not participating, turn off the light and the ghouls and witches and robots and superheroes will stop coming!
  • If you plan to have non-food items for trick-or-treating, you can place a teal pumpkin outside your house so families with allergies know they can get a fun and safe treat there!
