Resurfacing project to take place over two years

Daily Buzz | MassDOT Re-evaluates Bike and Pedestrian Access on Route 3A

Good Morning, Burlington, from very far away.

Last night, the state held a second community forum following the proposal to resurface Cambridge street from the Shawsheen River in Billerica to Burlington High School.

Based on followup traffic data, the state has made some changes to the design; the two main highlights are bike lane removal on Cambridge Street between Bedford Street and BHS in favor of new sidewalks, and adjustments to the buffered bike lane & sidewalk configuration between Kinney Ave and the Used Book Superstore.

A contractor is expected to be chosen in October of this year; construction will begin next spring and take place in phases over two years, completing in the spring of 2026. The state says traffic will go down to one lane in each direction at times during the construction, but pedestrian and abutter access will be continuous.

For more info, you can consult the presentation or reach out to the state!
