Daily Buzz | Home Ownership Within Reach

Good Morning, Burlington!

After a couple of park-worthy days this weekend, there looks to be a big Nor’easter coming into town tomorrow. If you’ve got a small engine repair business like Ed Torres does (781-956-4858), or if you engage in snow cleanup like Burlington Landscape, please let the Buzz know. We’re compiling a list for residents and would love to add your business.

If you’re a library user, you might have been following the Library App Saga. The Merrimac Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) and their app developer parted ways at the end of 2023, and a new app has been in the making since then. The Library is excited to announce that the MVLC App Update is now available for iPhone users. Android users will have to wait a bit more, but the app promises to restore the ability to place holds, check your checkouts, and more. Just be sure to have your library card handy or write down the number from the old app before updating, because the new app requires you to re-enter he number (along with your PIN, which is probably the last four digits of your phone number). Happy borrowing!

Home Ownership Within Reach

You might remember from January Town Meeting (Article 14) that the body approved the sale town-owned home at 119 South Bedford Street. This 1272-square-foot, 3-bedroom/1-bathroom house, purchased by the town in 2022 and renovated, is a part of Burlington’s affordable housing inventory, and the application period for prospective buyers is now open.

From now until March 21, homebuyers with an income less than 80% of the area median income, which comes to $118,450 for a family of four, may apply for the lotteryaffordablehousing@burlington.org.

It’s no secret that living in Burlington is expensive, and there’s not much inventory to go around. Opportunities like this make home ownership attainable for families who might not be able to own a home otherwise. Proceeds from this sale will go back into Burlington’s Affordable Housing Fund.

Little known fact: I grew up just outside Kansas City, Missouri before coming to Massachusetts for college. I would be remiss, then, if I did not congratulate my hometown team, the Kansas City Chiefs, for their overtime win at last night’s Super Bowl.

Red Devils Wrestling hosted the Division 2 North Sectionals on Saturday, and they’re proud to be sending three wrestlers to the state competition:

  • Ian Larson (2024), who placed 4th at 165 lbs
  • Tyler Vadnais (2025), who places 2nd in the Heavyweight Division
  • Jaycie Carroll (2027), who will be wrestling in the Girls’ Division

Congrats, wrestlers, on a job well done this season.

The boys’ basketball team won their non-league game yesterday against Westford with a score of 53-40.

Burlington hosts another championship today, as Lady Devils Gymnastics host the ML-12 Gymnastics Championships. Good luck, gymnasts!

That’s all for today. I’ll see you tomorrow from under a fresh blanket of snow.
