Daily Buzz | Highlight: Volunteer Opportunities with People Helping People
And, what to expect in the coming weeks
Hello!
It’s Monday morning, which means no meetings have happened yet this week and nothing has yet been added to the calendar of events I shared with you yesterday.
So I thought I’d take this opportunity to update you on a couple things.
Food Pantry Seeking Volunteers
I mentioned going to the People Helping People grand opening the other night, and told you all about the volunteer board they have, which is chock full of opportunities to support their work.
Here’s a brief list of opportunities, along with a photo of the entire board showing the many roles People Helping People is looking for volunteers to fill. Please find at the bottom of this post some close-up photos with descriptions of each role.

On Deadline
You might know I’ve been working on some other things this summer. My role in education technology is ramping up to peak season, which is poised to make me pretty busy. But. BUT!
A few other things have me splitting my attention more than usual this month.
From Sept 1-5, I’ll be overseas at a writing conference. In order to be fully prepared for this conference, my goal for the summer was to finish editing one book and finish the first draft of another.
The first book is done. Ready to print the transcript and deliver it to the perfect reader, who I most definitely will meet at this conference.
The second book is half-drafted. A good length for a book of this kind is 70,000-80,000 words, and this book currently stands at 37,000 words (about 150 pages). Two-thirds of that has been written in the last 2 weeks. So, while it’s going to be an absolute squeaker, I have some confidence that I’ll be able to just barely finish with this task by my deadline (trust me, I’m counting my work days, dividing them into the remaining word count, and trying not to panic that it won’t be enough).
All this is to say that, over the next three weeks until Labor Day, I might be opting to write my book during times when I’d normally be watching meetings or recording a podcast or eating.
And for the few days after that, I might be so drained from peopling, jet lag, and whatever emotional roller coaster this conference takes me on that I’ll be slow recovering. After that, though, good as gold.
Unless, of course, I get a book deal at the conference, in which case I’ll be just as insanely as I am now, but also earning money.
We’ll see what all that brings. I just thought, since I had a moment to breathe, I’d bring you up to date and let you know what to expect for the rest of the month.
Have a great day, Burlington! And don’t forget to share the Buzz with all your Burlington people!
