Daily Buzz | Here's What Not to Miss in Burlington This Weekend
Upcoming days are full of opportunities to support our community
Good Morning, Burlington!
I hope you’re enjoying the week, the weather, and the other fall things like scarecrows, house-sized skeletons looking like they’re ready to take over at any moment, and mallowcreme pumpkins.
It’s Friday in Burlington, and we’ve got just some notes and reminders for you as you roll into a long weekend. (Reminder #1 is that schools and town offices will be closed Monday!)
Town Meeting enters autumn with a full complement of Members
You already know that Town Meeting happened last Wednesday (Has it really only been a week?) at BHS. There was a meeting before the meeting, though, to fill two seats that had opened up in Precinct 7. The seats were filled by Joo Eun and Ronald Riley, ensuring a full complement of representatives for each precinct. Unfortunately, however, attendance was only 79%, meaning that 20% of our representatives didn’t attend. We’ll send out the attendance when it’s official.
Trivia tonight to support local football
There are only a few tickets left for this evening’s Trivia Night at the American Legion (162 Winn Street) hosted by Joe It All. Gather some friends to fill out your 10-person team, and get your tickets here. Tickets are $30 and there will be a cash bar. This is an 18+ event; all proceeds will support Burlington high school and middle school Football. Doors at 6; trivia begins at 7.
Reminders: Health Survey, Pumpkin Patch, Fitness Frenzy
- Don’t forget to fill in the Health Survey from the state Department of Public Health to improve access to appropriate resources in our area.
- The Recreation Department’s Fitness Frenzy is tomorrow at TRW park at 26 Mall Road. Enjoy some outdoor fitness and, if there are still spots, register for goat yoga! More info in the Parks & Recreation Department brochure.
- The Pumpkin Patch is open (and gorgeous!); don’t forget to send your painted or carved pumpkin pics to the Buzz!
Coming Up: Trucktober, Block Out Hunger, Spike Out Cancer, Miles for Mental Health
- Next Saturday, from 11-2, enjoy entertainment on the Common along with food from local food trucks (and a PowerWheels Derby in which Baby Buzz will participate (as long as he cooperates)!
- The Block Out Hunger food drive pairs up Burlington’s People Helping People food pantry with high school sports teams to collect much-needed food for Burlington residents. If you’re going to a home game in October, bring some nonperishable food—or feel free to make a donation on Venmo @burlington-pantry.
- The Spike Out Cancer Volleyball Fundraiser will be a week from today, as our volleyball teams take on the Stoneham Spartans. During the game, baskets will be raffled off to support the American Cancer Society. Learn how you can contribute.
- Miles for Mental Health will take place at the MSMS track next Sunday, October 15. You’ll learn much more about this community-building opportunity tomorrow, but in the meantime, why not snag your free ticket?

Sports and Activities
Our volleyball teams swept Arlington yesterday with 2-0 (F), 2-0 (JV), and 3-1 (V) victories, bringing the Varsity record to 8-3. They’ll be at it again this afternoon as they host Belmont: Freshman and JV teams play at 4:15; varsity plays at 5:30. They’ll be collecting donations for their Block Out Hunger campaign to support the Food Pantry at this and other games in October. See here for details about specific needs.
Our golf team is also celebrating after one threesome joined together to take third in the Freedom League at the Middlesex shootout.
In soccer, Arlington bested our varsity teams yesterday afternoon; our girls lost 3-0 and boys fell 2-1 against a hard-working and organized team. Today, freshman teams take on Belmont at 4:15, with girls traveling and boys hosting.
Belmont came out over our field hockey team, as well, by a score of 7-1. Swimmers were out in Arlington super late; we’ll share the results of this meet when they come in.
Finally, our football team will be traveling all the way to Wilmington today for a 6:00 PM game. Or, catch the Trivia Night to benefit their team!
No sports are on the calendar for the long weekend.
