Daily Buzz | Eversource to Hold Community Conversations, EV Webinars
And, district communicates with community regarding MSMS Pride
Good Morning, Burlington!
Shortly after the Buzz was sent out yesterday, the Burlington Education Association (the teacher’s union) released a statement on the counter-demonstration to Pride that occurred at Marshall Simonds on Friday. Before bed last night, MSMS principal, Dr. Cari Perchase, and BPS superintendent, Dr. Eric Conti, both sent letters to the school community. The three statements differed in focus, but all carried the same message: Free speech is one thing. But when speech and actions demean another individual or group, that is a demonstration of intolerance that has no place in our schools.
One of the district’s values, according to the BPS website, is [c]reating a learning that values human differences, fosters a sense of belonging, and promotes cultural proficiency among all students & staff. Dr. Perchase and Dr. Conti stated in their letters that more work is to be done to realize this value and committed to doing that work.
