And, share your Black History Month stories

Daily Buzz | BHS Play Views History Through the Eyes of The Dining Room

Hello, Burlington!

It’s hard to believe we’re already a month into 2024. February brings with it a number of special times, including Burlington’s 225th anniversary, the Buzz’s second birthday, and mid-winter vacation for students and teachers.

February is also Black History Month, a time to reflect on and appreciate the contributions of Black Americans to our society and recognize their ongoing fight to overcome adversity in a country that has historically marginalized them.

As a part of our new ongoing Community Celebrations feature, the Buzz wants to hear your Black History Month stories. How do you mark this special time? Do you have book or film recommendations to share with the community? Do you know of any can’t-miss local events? Would you like to share a story of joy, struggle, or innovation? Just reply to this email or send us a separate note. We will accept written stories, but we are also happy to conduct short interviews and write up stories from that information.

BHS Play Views History Through the Eyes of The Dining Room

Looking for something to do this weekend? Look no further than our own Fogelberg Performing Arts Center.

On Friday and Saturday, the Burlington High School Theater Program will be presenting The Dining Room by A.R. Gurney. Set in a single room over the span of decades, each vignette introduces new characters that play out scenes ranging from a woman trying to hide an affair to siblings arguing over an inheritance to the plight of adult kids caring for an aging parent. This comedy-drama, in which just 17 actors play 50 different roles, promises to delight. But, it’s only running this weekend, with an evening show on Friday and a matinee on Sunday. Get your tickets now! (1-781-A-FUN-TIC)
