Community Celebrations: India's Republic Day
A celebration of the Indian Constitution
Celebrated each year on January 26, Republic Day honors the anniversary of the date in 1950 when the Indian Constitution was adopted, according to the AP. At the time, India had been independent from British rule for 3 years.
Celebrations are held all around the world, including in the Indian capital of New Delhi, where a huge parade is held featuring performances from various groups, including the country’s military.
Here in Burlington, Republic Day will be celebrated on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Burlington High School. The Indian Association of Greater Boston will host a celebration of Indian culture whose focus this year is “Chalachitram,” celebrating 110 years of Indian cinema. The event will feature performances and film showings from India’s rich multilingual cinematic history. Learn more about the event, and attend for free! (Note: We’ve seen two different start times for this event—3:00 and 4:00.)
