Burlington Offers Free “Matter of Balance” Classes to Prevent Falls and Boost Confidence
Free fall-prevention classes in Burlington begin April 28. Learn balance, build strength, and reduce fear of falling with this 4-week wellness program.
The Burlington Board of Health, in partnership with the Burlington Volunteer Reserve Corps (BVRC), is offering a free wellness program designed to reduce the risk of falls for residents of all ages and fitness levels. The "Matter of Balance" course begins on April 28 and runs through May 21, with sessions held every Monday and Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m.
Falls are a major health concern, ranking as the third-leading cause of unintentional death in the United States. More than one in four older adults experience a fall each year, often during routine daily activities. The “Matter of Balance” program addresses these risks with a mix of education, discussion, and low-impact exercise to build strength, improve balance, and boost confidence.
Each session in the eight-class series will focus on different aspects of fall prevention, including identifying risk factors, overcoming fears, and making practical changes at home and in the workplace. Participants will engage in active discussions, watch and review videos, and receive weekly goals to support lifestyle changes. Every participant will also receive a personal workbook packed with tips and resources.
Class sizes are limited, and attendees are encouraged to commit to the full series for the best results. For more information or to register, call the Burlington Board of Health at 781-270-1955 or email boh@burlington.org.
