A new Collector Expo is coming to Burlington this December.

Collecting has long been a popular hobby, from stamps to cars, PEZ dispensers to sports memorabilia, and everything in between. And the collectible landscape has only expanded in recent years with the explosion of popular media like comic books, movie franchises, and entire universes.

Collector events, where vendors can come and share their wares for sale to enthusiasts looking for just the right item to add to their collection, are common. But often tabling fees are high and waitlists are long, making it difficult for hopeful vendors to join in the fun and share their enthusiasm.

That's about to change, as one Burlington resident will be bringing an accessible collector event to Burlington this year, just ahead of the holidays. On December 21, the Burlington Collector Expo will set up in the Burlington High School Cafeteria from 10:00 to 4:00. Founder Sam Gillis, a Burlington resident, BHS graduate, and recent Bentley grad, is partnering with Bentley classmate, Tucker Crowley, to launch this first-of-its-kind event in Burlington with a lower barrier to entry for both vendors and participants.

This buy/sell/trade event will welcome between 40 and 60 vendors from all around New England, charging only $40 to host a table. Admission is $5 per person, with discounts available for bulk purchases. Raffles will be available with gift cards from local businesses. Sam said he'd like to make this event welcoming to children, with characters visiting and posing for pictures and other ideas that are still in development. All different kinds of collectibles will be featured, both vintage and modern—including sports memorabilia like cards and jerseys, as well as anime and much more.

Sam has done some collecting in his day. He has always like sports collectibles, and he used to get Pokémon cards as a kid (which he now regrets giving away). Mostly, though, his vision is to offer this event as a platform for entrepreneurship so collectors looking to build a business can have a place to be known. Sam hopes this event will become a staple of the community, occurring a few times per year.
