Billerica Farmers' Market Named Best in State
The votes have been counted in the America's Farmers' Market Celebration by American Farmland Trust, and the market closest to Burlington took the top prize. Many Burlington residents head out to the Billerica Farmers' Market each Monday evening to enjoy their themed evenings, live entertainment, and large selection of produce and prepared food. Now, visitors can be proud to support the #1 farmers' market in Massachusetts for the third consecutive year.
Over 1,500 markets throughout the country participated this year, and more than 97,000 votes were cast. With over 800 votes, the Billerica Community Farmers' Market was voted fifth in the northeast and first in Massachusetts. Winners at various levels received cash prizes from $100 for each state winner to $5,000 for the national winner; these funds, according to the American Farmland Trust press release, are "for marketing, communications and other needs that help expand the market’s reach and impact."
Organized as a non-profit organization in 2021, the Billerica Community Farmers' Market's mission is to support small businesses, provide access to healthy food for all, educate the public, and improve the community. President Crystal Thomas said, "Our customers and the volunteer board members make us #1. Their support means our farmers and local small business can continue to prosper and that is really what is most important. We didn't imagine four years ago when we started this that we would have a bustling market with over up to 40 vendors and be voted #1 in Massachusetts.. but it is exactly where we want to be. Thank you!"
The farmers' market is held Monday evenings from 3:00-7:00 at 793 Boston Road. Here are some of their featured farms and prepared food offerings.
