Amateur Sleuths, Take Note! Library to Host Mystery Fest
The Burlington Public Library will be hosting its first-ever Sleuthing in the Stacks Mystery Festival.
Burlington Public Library is gearing up for its inaugural Mystery Festival this month, promising a week packed with events celebrating the beloved genre.
Each day of the festival features unique programming. One highlight is a multimedia presentation by authors Janet Raye Stevens and Sharon Yang. Their workshop, "She Can Do It: Real Movie Reels and Real Women in Mid-Century Mysteries," uses vintage film clips to explore how murder mysteries have evolved over time.
Best-selling author and library supporter Hank Philippi Ryan is also on the schedule for a meet-and-greet and book signing with the Night Owls Book Club.
The week's culminating event is a Downton Abbey-inspired murder mystery dinner theater on Jan. 19, presented by History at Play. This after-hours event weaves local Burlington history into its storyline.
"We're expecting this to be a hit," said Programming & Marketing Librarian, Daniel Barbour. "Mystery is such a popular genre. We think it's going to be a big success."
The festival, funded by a grant from the Mass Cultural Council, runs from January 26-31, but the month will be filled with mystery spins on regular library events, including a series of Hitchcock films for Sunday Cinema.
The Mystery Festival is just one way the library is working to offer varied programming for the community. Other upcoming events include a chocolate charcuterie board workshop in February. You can find more information about the library's offerings on their event calendar or at the Burlington Buzz Events Calendar.
