Daily Buzz | Cold Stone to Remain Open Following Board of Health Hearing
And your chance to support a local family through a difficult time
Good Morning, Burlington!
The Primrose School is holding their annual fundraising event to help a local family tomorrow evening in conjunction with Burlington Womenade. This year’s Ice Cream Social will benefit the family of four-year-old Olivia Ennis, who was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia earlier this year. Join Womenade at the Primrose School for an entertaining evening for the whole family, featuring face paint, raffles, ice cream, and pizza. $25 donation at the door; raffles and pizza additional.
Today is so full of events, you’d better start blocking time in your calendar as you drink your morning beverage of choice; here are just a few:
- Lahey Hospital Farmer’s Market from 9:00-1:00 at 41 Mall Road (Their flyer was written with me in mind; they’re advertising both local honey and cold brew coffee. Yes, please.)
- Beer Garden from 4:30-8:30 at the Community Corner park
- Another beer garden at Wegmans from 5-8
- Planning Board, a Town Meeting preparation meeting, and Middle School Back to School Night
And don’t forget to stop by the library to buy your raffle ticket for the Raffle Rouser fundraiser, running now until September 29, to support the Friends of the Library.
Board of Health Allows Cold Stone to Stay in Business
The Board of Health on Tuesday allowed Cold Stone Creamery to continue operations at its Wayside Shopping Center location after the restaurant was found in violation of the rule requiring a Certified Food Protection Manager to be on site at all times when the restaurant is open. Bryant Poag, the regional supervisor for this and four other locations, appeared in front of the Board to present his plan to ensure the ice cream shop complies with this regulation from this point forward.
Mr. Poag committed to picking up the shifts for which a certified Food Protection Manager is not available and said he would call on colleagues to support him with his other locations until employees can be either hired or certified in Burlington. He also said he would shorten operating hours if necessary to ensure full coverage.
Five employees have taken the required course and certification test, and while three of them did not pass the ServSafe exam, the Board is offering leniency because they did receive the education provided by the class. They aren’t able to take the test again for another 60 days, and so the Board took that into consideration in their decision not to suspend Cold Stone’s permit.
