Daily Buzz | Election Season Opens With First Campaign Kickoff
And, which BHS team has their best regular season record?
Morning, Burlington!
Reminder: Trash collection is delayed this week due to the Monday holiday. No need to put your barrels out until tonight or tomorrow morning!
Also: Thanks for helping us get over halfway to our birthday fundraising goal. Thanks to you, we have over $1,300 toward our new website—which we will be unveiling as soon as it’s ready!
Do you enjoy making both food and art? Would you like to have a ready-made accompaniment to your dinner the weekend of March 30? (Note: March 31 is Easter, for those who celebrate.) The Rotary Club is planning a great event for you! The Charcuterie Class on March 30 from 1:00-3:00 at Grand View Farm will provide everything you need to make a beautiful—and yummy!—charcuterie board for yourself and your family. Registration is $60; sign up today!
Proceeds benefit the Rotary Club, a global volunteer organization that works to effect change locally.
Election Season Opens With First Campaign Kickoff
The list of candidates is finalized for the 2024 local election, and that means candidates—especially those in contested races—are about to start coming at you. Incumbents will tell you what they’ve done to earn the privilege of staying in their seats; challengers will try and make a case for why they deserve a chance at their chosen office.
Whatever the office and whoever the candidate, the Buzz will be here throughout the season with profiles, interviews, and details about events—the first of which will be happening this evening as Martha Simon kicks off her School Committee re-election campaign. See the calendar below for details about the first official kickoff of the 2024 campaign season, and keep your eyes peeled for more next week.
We hate giving you homework. Today, though, it’s necessary. Look below to see how you can contribute to the Community Effect this election season.
- Everyone: see our updated Candidate Info Sheet and our Election Section for up-to-date info regarding seats up for election, candidates wishing to fill those seats, and (Coming soon!) running as a write-in candidate.
- Also everyone: email hello@burlington.buzz or comment on/reply to this post with what issues are important to you this election season. Knowing what readers find important will help shape our election coverage from now through April 6.
- If you’re a candidate for a town-wide seat and are not sure if we have your contact info: email hello@burlington.buzz so we can easily schedule interviews and otherwise correspond with you.
- If you’re a Town Meeting Member candidate: Please fill out this Profile Info Sheet ASAP so we can introduce voters to you! This information will be published in the first week of March, and we would like to have every single candidate represented by that time.
- If you know someone running for election who doesn’t read the Buzz: please forward this email to them so they can reach out with their contact info!
We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

Sports and Activities
Lady Devils basketball wrapped their season on a disappointing note yesterday with a 67-18 loss to Acton-Boxborough. Boys’ hockey, too, fell to their opponents at yesterday’s Cahoon Championship with a score of 1-0.
Lady Devils hockey, on the other hand, put a pin in their most successful season yet with a 4-0 win against Wellesley. Weeks ago the girls had surpassed the milestone of winningest record in program history, and they’ve just kept adding W after W since then. They end the regular season 17-1-2 and are sure to be seeded high in the state tourney.
Boys have a basketball game at noon today against North Andover as the season winds down and we wait for state tournament brackets to be posted.
That’s it for today. Have a great one!
Nicci
